For nearly all people over 50, healthy aging is very important. Of this group, 89% consider a varied and balanced diet essential.
A balanced and varied diet does not mean consuming light products (63%) or taking dietary supplements (54%). Most older adults see these as unimportant for staying healthy as they age.
To them, balanced nutrition primarily means:
-
Not eating too much (75%)
-
Eating three meals per day (60%)
-
Reducing intake of sugary, fatty, and salty foods (72%)
When shopping, 50+ adults look for product traits such as:
-
Low salt content (51%)
-
Reduced sugar (46%)
-
Cholesterol-lowering (42%)
-
High in fiber (40%)
Less than 10% value organic foods or probiotics.
People over 50 place little emphasis on appearance when it comes to healthy aging. Only 6% believe that aging healthily includes looking younger than your actual age.
98% say healthy aging is very important. According to them, you can’t start preparing too early:
-
60% say you should start before age 40
-
44% believe you should start before age 30
These results come from an online survey conducted by Motivaction between June 23 and 27, 2016. Of the 3,700 Dutch adults aged 50 to 80 who were invited, 1,253 participated.
