Honey and cinnamon as a miracle cure for every ailment? It seems that’s mostly a myth.
Various stories on the internet claim that the combination has near-magical powers — for weight loss, heart disease, joint pain, a stronger gallbladder, and quick cures for bladder infections.
However, there’s no scientific evidence supporting claims that honey or cinnamon help with weight loss, infection prevention, joint pain, or gallbladder health. As for colds or the flu — these remedies don’t work against viruses. While honey and cinnamon do have some antibacterial properties, they do nothing against viral infections, and both colds and flu are caused by viruses.
So what is proven?
Both honey and cinnamon have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Some studies have shown that they may support heart health and can slightly lower “bad” LDL cholesterol levels.
However, there is no evidence that the two have ever been studied or proven effective as a combined treatment.
Honey has also been shown to help heal certain wounds in diabetic patients, but only when used as a topical treatment applied by medical professionals.
Always consult your doctor before trying any home remedies for medical issues. And if you’re watching your weight, be cautious: honey contains almost 1.5 times as many calories per tablespoon as sugar.
