Flatulence — everyone experiences it from time to time. It’s quite annoying, especially in company. Certain foods can promote gassiness.
Legumes, especially beans, are a prime example. Beans contain carbohydrates that are not completely digested. These carbohydrates reach the large intestine unchanged, where they are fermented by the gut flora, resulting in extra gas formation. The same goes for peas, lentils, sprouts, and peanuts. Legumes are healthy. They can be a source of carbohydrates, serve as vegetables, or act as a meat substitute. Onions, cabbage varieties, fruit, and light products can also cause flatulence. If you suffer from gassiness, it’s advisable to consume smaller amounts or temporarily avoid legumes altogether.
