How can you prevent wilted lettuce and spoiled fruit?
You can use many products longer if you store them properly. How does that work again?
-
Store potatoes, onions, and tomatoes outside the fridge in a dry, cool place.
-
Keep ethylene-producing products (bananas, avocados, kiwis, tomatoes, melons) away from ethylene-sensitiveitems like apples, broccoli, carrots, and lettuce. Use a separate bag or container.
-
Store unripe bananas outside the fridge. Once ripe, place them in the fridge.
-
Store citrus fruits in a net or plastic bag in the fridge.
-
Wrap celery in aluminum foil before putting it in the fridge.
-
Store carrots, lettuce, or broccoli in separate bags in the fridge. Make sure these vegetables stay dry.
-
Moisture causes mold quickly, so don’t wash strawberries or berries until just before eating.
-
Keep your fridge clean and below 5 degrees Celsius (41°F).
-
Don’t store fruits or vegetables next to a gas stove or oven.
-
Cut fruits and vegetables just before eating to keep them fresher longer.
-
If you store apples and potatoes together, the potatoes will sprout less. Keep bananas far away from all other fruits and vegetables.
-
Use lemon juice to prevent sliced apples and avocados from turning brown.
