Is Spelt Really Healthier?
More and more people are looking to reduce their carbohydrate intake and are turning to products made with spelt.
But is spelt actually healthier?
One of the most popular spelt-based products is bread. For some, this may seem like a new trend, but in fact, our ancestors were already eating spelt-based products centuries ago.
Additionally, spelt is often considered a good option for people with gluten sensitivities.
But is spelt really better for those without a gluten allergy?
Spelt is a type of grain used to bake bread, among other things. The gluten in spelt bread is often easier to tolerate for people with mild gluten sensitivities. During the baking process, spelt bread retains its nutrients, making it richer in vitamins, minerals (such as iron and magnesium), proteins, and fiber — even up to five times more than regular wheat bread.
Spelt bread also contains amino acids that help stimulate the production of “feel-good” hormones.
If spelt appeals to you and you’d like to include it in your diet, keep in mind that its calorie content may differ from that of standard whole grain bread.
It’s always a good idea to check with your coach first to see what’s best for you!
