In today’s digital society, you’re constantly bombarded with stimuli — from ads, promotions, and endless notifications. But how can you keep the noise out? In this article, we share tips on how to filter it so you can truly enjoy life again.
Where does all this noise come from?
-
Your smartphone – You’re probably constantly receiving notifications from emails, messages, and apps.
-
Your computer, laptop, or tablet – Just like on your phone, you’re flooded with ads and pop-ups.
-
TV and radio – Most people have something playing in the background: a TV show they’re not really watching, or the radio just for music. But commercials still play — and your brain processes them, even if you’re not actively listening!
How can you reduce all these stimuli and start enjoying daily life again?
-
Set your phone to only notify you of calls. You can check everything else when you choose. Make your phone work for you again — not the other way around.
-
Make a deal with yourself to check messages only two or three times a day. Most people won’t find it strange if you don’t reply immediately. This creates better, more meaningful conversations instead of rushed replies.
-
Remove apps or accounts that no longer bring real value to your life.
-
Don’t leave the TV or radio on by default. Choose calm channels or turn them off completely unless you’re actively watching or listening. Set limits for how long you watch, and do something fun afterward.
-
Install ad blockers on your devices — they hide ads so you can browse the internet distraction-free. You’ll be amazed how “empty” a website suddenly looks!
And now that your mind is calmer, enjoy the moment. Sit on the couch with a cup of tea and just be. Or finally pick up that hobby you’ve left untouched in the attic for years.
Enjoy your well-deserved peace and quiet!
