Rest is good for you — not only mentally, but also for your heart.
Daily rest in the form of a siesta between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. needs to last just 30 minutes. Many people think this takes away valuable time, but in fact, the benefits are quickly regained after the siesta.
Employees who take a midday nap perform better after just half an hour of rest because they experience less stress and feel re-energized.
An additional benefit: siestas are linked to fewer heart diseases. This was proven by Greek research results.
Scientists in Athens followed 23,681 working men over a period of six years. According to the researchers, employees who enjoyed a short siesta every workday had 37% lower risk of heart attacks.
Those who took a siesta only occasionally still saw their risk reduced by 12%.
The researchers are convinced that reducing stress halfway through the workday allows the heart to recover and deliver “fresh energy.”
