In 2010, I lost 20 kilos on my own and managed to maintain that fairly well for five years—until the past six months. Due to my demanding work, exercising quickly became a low priority. Coming home tired in the evenings, I just couldn’t drag myself to the gym anymore. After the summer holiday of 2016, I’d had enough. I stepped on the scale and saw that I had gained 9 kilos. That was my wake-up call, and I made an appointment at Medisport Etten-Leur.
On August 1, 2016, I went to my first appointment full of determination. Facing the scale was a harsh reality check. I had a few things I needed to get off my chest. I had turned 50 that summer, and I wanted to lose weight, but also still enjoy life. My BenFit coach, Manon, immediately understood and agreed that I could have two glasses of wine on the weekend.
August 2, 2016, was the first day of my diet and the start of my meal plans—but it also happened to be my husband’s birthday, and he wanted to go out for dinner. It already felt like a dilemma. But Manon told me I could go out to eat, as long as I made conscious choices. I ordered fish and skipped the wine. In the first week, I already lost 0.8 kilos.
The following 12 weeks were filled with dinners, trips, and parties every weekend. By making mindful choices and with Manon’s encouragement, I lost 9.5 kilos! Finally, I’m back at the weight I had after my big weight-loss journey six years ago. I feel great in my body and receive many compliments. My clothes fit well again, and I feel confident.
